Why I'm Running

My name is Nick Capozzi and I am running to represent Eagle River in the State House.  I have had a lot of questions about why I am running.  The simple answer is that we need new leadership in the House.  We deserve the opportunity to have representation that fights for what is most important in our state and to our residents.  Alaska is a resource state, plain and simple.  Our Statehood act and ANILCA give Alaska the authority and right to develop responsibly in order to self fund and sustain the state.  Nothing is free, and our need is greater than ever for responsible development in order to fund our state, from education, to roads our funding is tied to our resources.  Alaska deserves the best in services that it provides its citizens and I am willing to work to get us there.  My goal is to ensure that the state banks are not raided to fund the state, but that we are opening up, and investing in the opportunities that will continue to fund those programs for years to come.

I further believe that your elected representative is your employee and works for you, from committee assignments to constituent services.  I will provide that to any Eagle River resident regardless of party affiliation or stance.  We may not always agree, but I will listen and dialog through any issue, and work towards an acceptable outcome.

About Nick

I have been serving this country and state since 1996 where at 17 I joined the Army and continued to serve for almost 25 years.  I am a combat veteran with 5 tours between Afghanistan and Iraq.  Upon retirement, I came back to my home state and went on to serve as a Military and Veteran Advisor for US Senator Dan Sullivan.  Later I went on to serve as a Special Assistant to Governor Dunleavy.  My portfolio while working for the Governor was Departments of Administration, Labor, Commerce, and Military and Veteran Affairs.  I also had some state agencies in my portfolio, such as AIDEA, Alaska Aerospace, Alaska Railroad, and Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute.  I left the Governor's office in June of 2025 in order to take on a new role, that of Candidate for House Seat 23 (Eagle River).

Eagle River deserves the best representation, and I am here to provide that.
